1. About Us & This Policy
Divinity is a free, non-profit mobile application created to serve Hindu devotees worldwide by providing information about Hindu temples. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, who we share it with, and what rights you have.
We never sell your data and we never will.

2. Data We Collect
Account information: Your name, email address, and profile picture โ provided when you sign in using Google Sign-In (and in future, Apple Sign-In or Facebook Login).
Temple interactions: Temples you follow, temple visits you record, and your visit history.
Community content: Posts, comments, and reactions you make in the Satsang / Feed section.
Usage data: Features you use, screens you view โ used only in aggregated, anonymized form to improve the app.
Location data: Your approximate or precise location, only when you explicitly grant permission, used only to display nearby temples.
Crash reports: Technical logs to identify and fix bugs.
3. How We Use Your Data
- Authenticate you and maintain your account (contractual necessity)
- Display and manage temple follows and visit history (contractual necessity)
- Display your posts in the Satsang Feed (contractual necessity)
- Show nearby temples when you permit location (consent)
- Respond to support requests (legitimate interest)
- Improve reliability via anonymized crash/usage data (legitimate interest)
- Investigate policy violations and ensure safety (legitimate interest)
- Comply with legal obligations (legal obligation)
We do not use your data for advertising, behavioral profiling, or any commercial purpose.
4. Third-Party Services
Google Sign-In (current): We use Google Sign-In to authenticate users. We receive your name, email, and profile picture from Google, processed under Google's Privacy Policy (policies.google.com/privacy).
Google Maps Platform (current): Used to display temple locations. Google Maps may collect device location information per Google's Privacy Policy. You may revoke location permission at any time in your device settings.
Sign in with Apple (current): Apple provides authentication data under Apple's Privacy Policy. We will support Apple's private relay email.
Facebook Login (current): Meta provides authentication data under Meta's Privacy Policy.
OpenStreetMap (planned map migration): OSM tile data is licensed under the Open Database License. Tile serving does not involve personal data collection.
We do not share your data with advertisers, data brokers, or any third party for commercial purposes.
5. Data Retention
Account profile: Retained while your account is active; deleted upon account deletion.
Temple follows and visit history: Retained while account is active; deleted upon account deletion.
Feed posts and comments: Removed from public view immediately on user request; permanently deleted from servers within 30 days.
Consent records: Retained for 3 years from account deletion (with personal identifiers removed) to satisfy regulatory proof-of-consent requirements.
6. Account & Data Deletion
You can delete your Divinity account and all associated personal data at any time. Two options are available:
- In the app: Go to Settings > Manage Account > Delete Account. This permanently removes your profile, temple follows, and visit history.
- By email: If you cannot access the app, write to contact@mydivinity.org from the email address associated with your account, and we will process your deletion request.
Upon deletion, your account profile, temple follows, and visit history are deleted. Feed posts and comments are removed from public view immediately and permanently deleted from our servers within 30 days. Consent records are retained (with personal identifiers removed) for 3 years to satisfy regulatory proof-of-consent requirements, as described in Section 5.
7. Your Rights
Regardless of where you live, you may:
- Access your personal data by contacting contact@mydivinity.org
- Correct inaccurate data from within the app or by contacting us
- Delete your account and associated data from Settings > Account
- Revoke location permission at any time in your device settings
EU/EEA/UK users (GDPR): You also have the right to erasure, data portability, restriction, objection, and to lodge a complaint with your national Data Protection Authority.
India users (DPDP Act 2023): You have the right to obtain information about processing, correction, erasure, and grievance redressal. Contact contact@mydivinity.org for all requests. Users under 18 in India: data is processed only with verifiable parental consent.
California users (CCPA): We do not sell personal data. We will honor deletion and access requests from California users in good faith.
8. Children's Privacy
The Divinity app is rated 16+ on the App Store and Google Play. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16. Under India's DPDP Act, users under 18 require parental consent for data processing. If you believe a minor has used the app without appropriate consent, contact contact@mydivinity.org.
9. Data Security
We implement industry-standard technical safeguards including encrypted data transmission (TLS/HTTPS) and secure database access controls. In the event of a data breach, we will notify you and relevant regulatory authorities within timeframes required by applicable law (72 hours under GDPR; promptly under India's DPDP Act).
10. International Data Transfers
Your data may be stored and processed in countries outside your country of residence. Where required by GDPR, we implement Standard Contractual Clauses (EU SCCs) or equivalent transfer mechanisms.
11. Changes to This Policy
We will notify you of material changes through an in-app notification at least 30 days before changes take effect. For significant changes, a new version number will be issued and your renewed acceptance will be requested.
